Devents Public Safety Building
Devens, a successor to Fort Devens, is a regional enterprise zone operated by an advisory committee to MassDevelopment. A new public safety facility was envisioned to provide services of Police and Fire Departments to better protect life and property in this developing community in addition to mutual aid to the neighboring communities of Harvard, Ayer, and Shirley. The chosen location is in proximity to the existing fire station and shares space with the Regional Dispatch Center in a former school building. New additions include an apparatus bay for the fire station, a sallyport for the police station and a freestanding fire department training tower.
As a State funded building, the Devens Public Safety Building is slated to receive LEED Silver Certification and will be “solar ready” for future roof mounted photovoltaic panels.
