Partners in Health / Department of Global Health & Social Medicine (HMS) Administration Building

Restoration and Renovation of the four story, 29,000 square foot office building located at 641-643 Huntington Avenue was completed in September 2009.The goal was to transform two neglected, attached masonry buildings built in the 19th century, into a modern, technology integrated workplace for HMS Non-profit affiliate Partners in Health and the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine. Aligning with HMS’s sustainability mission, we also had the task of targeting the renovation as LEED™ Gold as guided by the US Green Building Council.

During the design stages, we worked with the clients to help define their needs and design elements to support better functionality across departments. To support their communication with global teams and remote workers, an array of virtual conferencing rooms were included on each department floor to enhance collaboration. A large meeting room at the lobby level with virtual conferencing, HD projector, flat screen panels and modular furniture can accommodate 50 people, while also having the flexibility to adapt into two smaller rooms supported by the integration of a hidden, remote-operated drop wall. Informal meeting places and teaming rooms were placed strategically around open office areas to promote communication, and in lieu of secluded, private offices, large shared offices with touch-down areas were given to the organization’s many project managers.
